Business opportunities Make biofuel with wastewater

Qteros form a partnership to use wastewater as a feedstock for making ethanol.

More and more companies discover that wastewater is a veritable “black gold.” In recent years, the waste sludge has been used to create electricity, fertilizer, fish food and gasoline. Currently, two companies recently joined to turn sewage into ethanol. While other companies have been working on the transformation of ethanol from municipal solid waste, sewage has been a source of ethanol relatively undeveloped.

The Qteros cellulosic ethanol company in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Applied Cleantech (ACT), a recycling company based in Israel, are combining their technologies to turn wastewater into ethanol biofuel. According to the companies, the process could produce high-quality biofuel and reduce monthly bills plant wastewater treatment.
